Home / / Restarting Safely: IATA & DGCA-Approved DG Training Resumes at Speedwings Aviation Academy
Speedwings Aviation Academy, the first and only one in South India to offer regulatory training and certifications by both IATA and DGCA under one roof, proudly announces its recent achievements. The academy has been re-accredited by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for competency-based dangerous goods certifications until June 9, 2026, and approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of the Government of India until January 31, 2025, for Initial and Recurrent courses covering all TEN Functions under the new safety culture outlined in ICAO Dc 10147 and Civil Aviation Regulations (CAR) dated January 25, 2023.
The DGCA has adopted an improved approach to dangerous goods training, condensing initial training sessions for all functions to two days, typically completed within a single day. This adjustment allows for more comprehensive and intensive training, ensuring participants are well-prepared to handle dangerous goods effectively.
The new training structure adheres to regulatory standards and employer Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), emphasizing tasks tailored to each participant’s job role functions and responsibilities. CBTA training aims to equip participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competency to fulfill their assigned functions responsibly and accountable, aligned with ICAO Technical Instructions and national requirements.
After a Brief one-month dilemma, we have successfully reinstated our training clearance from May 2024. This transition from the traditional category-based to competency-based training and assessment aligns India’s dangerous goods training program with global standards. For personnel holding Category-based certifications, the renewal process (Recurrent) certification shall be migrated to the CBTA process upon re-evaluation and re-assessment of their knowledge and skills, as per the national framework. This ensures a smooth and fair transition for all our participants.
Participants can anticipate a rigorous evaluation process comprising written exams, skills tests, quizzes, group discussions, case studies, and scenario-based assessments. This process ensures that only those who have mastered the material receive certification. Certification is granted upon achieving a minimum score of 80% in written and practical skill assessments, accompanied by an assessment and performance report for employers and video evidence for regulatory scrutiny.
